My Fall 2018 New York Fashion Week experience was one of the most significant experiences of my entire life. I did things that I have never done before. I went places I have never gone. I met people I had never met.
It was kind of surreal. For those who may be unfamiliar, fashion week is when the world’s top designers present their upcoming collections via runway shows, parties, and presentations. Fashion week started as a “Press Week” in Paris, but Americans couldn’t always get over there to attend. So in true “American fashion” - no pun intended - we started our own, called it Fashion Week, and housed it in various locations in NYC to show what we can do! Venues vary from what was called "the tents" to Bryant Park to Spring Studios to a high school. (Yes, this year I attended a show on the rooftop of a high school). New York Fashion Week (NYFW) happens twice a year—once in February and once in September. (Each time designers show collections for the season ahead, February shows fall/winter, September shows spring/summer). Every year celebrities, influencers, bloggers, and the like attend. This September’s fashion week represents my one year anniversary of attending these events. After a year of blogging, networking with other fashionistas, and increasing my fashion knowledge, I stepped to this experience with so much more of a foundation and network. It paid off. I attended the #CurvyCon - the premier plus size fashion event during NYFW - with a coveted Platinum pass. I scored 2nd row seats to Michael Costello’s showing. And, I attended an exclusive fashion presentation on a boat. To add to that, I saw myself reflected on the runway. Many fashionistas will tell you this year's fall fashion week was one of the most inclusive showings ever. Whether you are a die hard FASHION KILLA, or just someone who likes to look good, NYFW is a great event to attend. My next posts will take you through individual shows and events. Read each one, comment, and let me know what you think.

Dripping in nautical chic, Lela Rose's SS'19 collection was a joy to experience. Not simply because the fashion was "oh so feminine" and ready to wear, but, also, the presentation abandoned the traditional runway for a modern live demonstration on the water. Insiders tell me Lela Rose is known for this! Despite grey skies and wet weather, the affair was a perfect preview for a spring party complete with passed lobster rolls and oysters, champagne spritzers, live music, and yellow leis. And the fashion - of course - did not disappoint. The checkered tan, cream, and brown suit made me smile, the sheer, low cut white gown seemed perfect for any stylish brides's occasion, and the lace flower dresses were delicate, yet forward. See the pics for more - and look closely, you will see a picture of Lela Rose herself. Thanks for the Invite!
